Grace Riggan is an artist who has made the Cevennes her home and studio since 2018. She was an architect and artisan (woodworker and carpenter), with her own design-build business in the United States for 25 years, before moving to France in 2015. She then turned her focus more to the art of batik, which she has been practicing for more than 30 years. Riggan is also an avid hiker and gardener, as well as a practitioner of yoga and meditation, and her passion for the land and landscape is reflected in her new works, which also represent an evolution from architect-artisan to artist-artisan.
She brings patient observations of trees, stone structures, and light to her works on silk. This year in Arles she brings woodworking and silk creations together in spatial installations.
