Batiks
The fundamental process of batik is the application of melted wax on cloth to resist the absorption of dye. Riggan developed her craft through her own experiences, with a preference for silk and painting the wax with a paintbrush. Her silk hangings reveal peaceful landscapes rich in nuances that respond to the changing light of day. They are distinguished in their use of noble materials and hand-crafted framing details that create elegant interior installations.

“My artwork is inspired by the natural world. I find the eloquence of ordinary elements, like dirt or fenceposts, as fascinating as extraordinary landscapes or specimens, like an allée of magnificent plane trees. It all beckons me to be quiet and to behold. To quietly behold is to be transported from cognitive awareness to the ungraspable beyond. ”
